“The United Nations High Level Political Forum (HLPF) was mandated in 2012 by the outcome document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). The format and organizational aspects of the HLPF are outlined in General Assembly resolution 67/290.
The HLPF meets every year under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, and every fourth year, it also meets under the auspices of the General Assembly. The goal of the HLPF is to provide political leadership, guidance and recommendations on follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The HLPF convenes “thematic sessions” and considers the Voluntary National Reviews submitted by Member States. The outcome of the HLPF is a “Ministerial Declaration” .
